Medical Laboratory Information System (LIS)
A laboratory information system (LIS) follows each sample from registration to the released result: test orders, a barcode label for the sample, routing to departments and analysers, results entered or received from the analyser, review and validation, then a PDF report sent to the patient or doctor. We build it for independent labs, labs inside medical centres and labs offering home sample collection. Implementation takes 10 to 16 weeks, and custom systems with us start from SAR 18,800, with the price set by the number of interfaced analysers, branches and integrations. You get a written quote within 24 hours.

Who is this for?
- Independent medical labs running on paper and spreadsheets between reception and departments
- Labs inside medical centres receiving doctors’ orders from the clinics
- Labs offering home sample collection that need visit scheduling
- Reference labs receiving samples from contracted facilities and billing them monthly
- Health check and pre-employment screening centres serving companies
What you get
Order and sample registration
A patient record, tests or panels selected, a barcode label printed for every tube, and the collection time and collector recorded.
Sample tracking between departments
Every sample’s status: collected, received in the department, in analysis, awaiting validation, ready. Reception no longer phones the departments.
Analyser interfacing
Results received from analysers that support automatic transmission instead of being retyped, with manual entry for those that don’t.
Reference ranges and alerts
Normal ranges by age and sex, abnormal and critical results flagged, and an immediate alert to the specialist on critical values.
Review and validation
No result is released before someone with the authority validates it, with a full log of every change by name and time.
Result reports for patients and doctors
A bilingual PDF report on the lab’s letterhead, sent on WhatsApp or through a secure link, with comparison to the patient’s previous results.
Insurance and contracted facilities
A price list per insurer or facility, the patient share separated, monthly claims, and statements for referring labs and clinics.
Home collection visits
Collection slots booked on the website or WhatsApp, visits assigned to technicians by district, and a technician app that records the draw and photographs the order.
Where the hours go in a lab
In most labs without a dedicated system, a result is written twice: once from the analyser screen to paper, and again from paper into the reporting software. Every manual copy is a chance for a wrong number, and in a lab a wrong number is not a detail.
At reception the same question repeats all day: is this patient’s result ready? A lab system puts the answer on screen and sends the result to the patient automatically once it is validated, so staff can get on with the actual work.
Analyser interfacing: what is possible and on what terms
Many modern analysers can send results automatically to a lab system using protocols that are standard in the sector. We review your analyser list and models with you at the start and agree which can be interfaced directly, which need middleware from the vendor, and which will stay on manual entry.
We usually start with the highest-volume analysers, because they save the most time and remove the most errors, then add the rest in stages. The cost of any middleware or vendor licence is stated separately before you sign.
Insurance, invoicing and the regulators
Invoices issued by the system are built to meet ZATCA’s e-invoicing requirements. For electronic health insurance claims and official health platforms, we review which ones apply to your business and integrate where the authority offers an interface and the required accreditation is in place.
Patient data is always kept under strict permissions with an access log, because it is sensitive health data, and we design the system with the Kingdom’s personal data protection requirements in mind.
The patient journey: from booking to result
Patients now expect to book and receive their results on their phone. We add the parts of this layer that fit the size of your lab:
- Booking a collection slot at the lab or at home from the website or a WhatsApp link
- Test preparation instructions (fasting or otherwise) sent automatically before the visit
- A WhatsApp notification when the result is ready, with a secure report link
- A history of past results the patient can share with their doctor
- Online payment with mada and Apple Pay at booking
Ready-made or custom?
There are strong ready-made lab systems, and some suit a small lab that wants to start quickly. Compare them on interfacing with the analysers you own, Arabic reports, and data export if you want to leave later.
A custom system suits a lab with its own way of working: several branches and collection points, contracts with clinics and companies at different prices, extensive home collection, or a link to the medical centre’s system. You own the code and the data, with no fee per user.
Implementation and go-live plan
We start with registration, barcodes, results, validation and reports, because that is the cycle every sample goes through. Then we interface the analysers one by one, then insurance and home visits. We run the system alongside your current process for a short period until the departments trust the numbers.
We train lab technicians and reception on the screens and hand over a short guide for each role. The delivery date is in the contract, and payments are tied to delivery stages.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a medical lab management system cost?
Custom systems with us start from SAR 18,800, and the price is set by the number of analysers to interface, branches and collection points, and insurance integrations. We send a written quote within 24 hours of understanding your lab’s workflow.
Does the system connect directly to analysers?
Yes, for analysers that support automatic result transmission. We review your models before signing and agree which connect directly, which need vendor middleware and which stay on manual entry, and we write that into the scope.
Can patients receive results on WhatsApp?
Yes. Once a result is validated, the patient gets a WhatsApp notification with a secure link to the report, or the report goes straight to the referring doctor if you prefer. No result is released before someone with the authority validates it.
Does it support insurers and contracted facilities?
Yes. Each insurer or facility has its own price list and co-pay, and claims and statements are compiled monthly. Electronic links to insurance platforms are built where the authority allows it and the required accreditation is in place.
Does it manage home sample collection?
Yes. Patients book a slot, visits are assigned to technicians by area, and the technician records the draw time and sample details in their app, so samples arrive at the lab already barcoded.
How long does implementation take?
10 to 16 weeks depending on analysers, branches and integrations. We deliver the core cycle first, then add interfacing, insurance and home visits. The delivery date is written into the contract and we keep it.
